Slack

Cauldron’s Slack app posts review updates to channels your team picks, and keeps the Slack thread under each review message in sync with the asset’s Thread. Optionally, it can post your studio’s wins (level-ups, feats, new members) to a channel of their own.

What posts to a brand’s review channel:

  • One asset submitted for review: a message with the asset image and Approve and Request changes buttons.
  • Several assets submitted, approved or sent back at once: one summary per brand, with a contact sheet of thumbnails and a link to the brand’s review queue.
  • A decision made in Cauldron: approvals and change requests post to the channel too.

Setting it up has three parts:

  1. An owner or admin adds Cauldron to your Slack workspace once, from Settings → Studio.
  2. Someone with access to the brand picks a channel for each brand’s review updates, plus a channel for studio wins if you want one.
  3. Each person who wants to review from Slack connects their own Slack account from their profile.

You need to be a studio Owner or Admin to do this.

  1. Open Settings → Studio and find the Slack section.
  2. Click Add to Slack. Slack opens and lists what Cauldron is asking for (see Permissions).
  3. Choose the Slack workspace if Slack asks, then click Allow. Slack’s page says App is not approved by Slack. That’s expected: Cauldron isn’t listed in the Slack Marketplace, so Slack shows this for every install. It doesn’t change what Cauldron can do.
  4. You come back to Studio settings, see Slack connected., and the section reads Connected to followed by your Slack workspace’s name.

If you click Cancel on Slack’s page, you’ll see Slack install canceled. and nothing changes.

Your Slack admin may need to approve Cauldron. Some Slack workspaces only let admins install apps. If yours does, Slack offers to send a request to your Slack admins instead of showing Allow. Once they approve it, click Add to Slack again.

A studio connects to one Slack workspace, and a Slack workspace can be connected to one studio. If the Slack workspace you pick is already connected to a different Cauldron studio, you’ll see That Slack workspace is already connected to another studio. Disconnect it from that studio first, or pick a different Slack workspace.

Enterprise Grid organization-wide installs aren’t supported. Install Cauldron into a single workspace in the organization instead.

Cauldron only posts to channels you choose. Nothing posts until a channel is set.

  1. In the Slack channel, type /invite @Cauldron and send it. This works the same for public channels, private channels, and Slack Connect channels shared with another company.
  2. Copy the channel ID: click the channel name, open the About tab, and the ID is at the bottom. It starts with C, like C0123ABCDEF.
  3. Paste the ID into the field in Cauldron (see the table below) and save. Saving sends a test message to the channel, so you can see it worked. If the message can’t be delivered, nothing is saved and you see why.

To stop posting, clear the field and save.

Each brand posts to its own channel. There’s no studio-wide default: a brand with no channel set posts no review updates to Slack. Until Slack is connected for your studio, the studio channel field is grayed out and the brand’s Slack row offers only Connect, which takes an Owner or Admin to Studio settings.

You can also set these channels by asking Claude, or another AI tool connected to Cauldron. Owners and admins can set any of them, and brand managers can set the review channel for their own brands. Saving from Claude sends the same test message. See Connected AI tools.

When you click Approve or Request changes in Slack, Cauldron needs to know which studio member you are. It checks two things, in order:

  1. A linked Slack account. You link it once from your profile (steps below).
  2. Your email. If your Slack email matches the email of someone in this studio, Cauldron treats you as that person and remembers the link.

If neither matches, Slack shows you a private note asking you to connect Slack in your profile, and the asset doesn’t change.

To link your Slack account:

  1. Make sure your studio has added Cauldron to Slack.
  2. Open your profile and find Slack account under Preferences.
  3. Click Connect Slack and approve on Slack’s page. You come back to your profile and see Slack connected.

After that:

  • Studio updates @-mention you instead of only naming you.
  • Approve and Request changes in Slack act as you, with your brand role. If you can’t approve on that brand in Cauldron, you can’t approve from Slack either.
  • Your Slack replies on a review thread show on the asset under your studio name.

Your Slack account has to belong to the Slack workspace your studio connected. If it doesn’t, you’ll see That Slack account belongs to a different workspace than the studio bot. To unlink, click Disconnect on the same row. See Profile.

Working with other companies over Slack Connect

Section titled “Working with other companies over Slack Connect”

If you share a channel with another company through Slack Connect, you can use it as that brand’s review channel. Invite the bot to the shared channel and paste its ID as the brand’s review channel.

People from the other company can reply in the review thread without a Cauldron account. Their replies show on the asset as “Name · via Slack”. Only studio members with the right brand role can approve or request changes. Their click on those buttons gets a private note saying Cauldron couldn’t match their Slack account, and the asset doesn’t change. Reviewing has more on Reviewing from Slack.

When you add Cauldron, Slack asks for these permissions on behalf of the Cauldron bot. Cauldron never asks for a token that acts as you.

  • The bot token for your Slack workspace, encrypted, for your studio alone. It’s used only to post to the channels you choose and to read replies in synced review threads.
  • Replies and reactions from synced review threads, with the names and avatars of the people who made them. These are kept as part of the asset’s history.
  • Your Slack identity, if you connect your own account. That’s your Slack user and workspace IDs, never a personal Slack token.

Cauldron never uses Slack data to train AI models. The Privacy policy has the full details.

An Owner or Admin can disconnect at any time from Settings → Studio → Slack. Click Disconnect and confirm. Cauldron deletes the bot token and revokes it with Slack straight away, then stops posting to your Slack workspace.

Removing the Cauldron app from Slack’s side (through your workspace’s app management) does the same thing: the token is deleted as soon as Slack tells Cauldron.

Either way:

  • Comments already synced stay on the asset, as part of its history, until the asset is deleted permanently from the Archive.
  • Review messages already in Slack stay where they are, but their buttons stop working.
  • The channel IDs you set stay saved. If you add Cauldron to Slack again, invite the bot back to each channel.
